Alex and Faye Spanos firmly believed that a solid family foundation was critical to success in life. Which is why they established the Chargers Impact Fund (501c3 nonprofit charity) to improve the circumstances of families
and their communities.

Since 1995, the Chargers Impact Fund has awarded more than $12 million in direct community assistance, including more than $6 million to public schools for physical fitness, nutrition and athletic programs and equipment.

Today - in partnership with Chargers fans, volunteers, and donors - the Chargers Impact Fund continues to honor Alex and Faye's legacy by helping to build strong support structures for youth, families, and
their communities across Southern California.

About this job

Under the direction of leadership, the Director, Fundraising & Communications manages the day-to-day operations of fundraising/development and communications initiatives of the Chargers Impact Fund. This is a new position and has been identified as a key role for growing the Chargers Impact Fund’s outreach in Los Angeles and across Southern California. communities.

Objective: Work cross-functionally across the organization to execute against the Chargers Impact Fund’s mission. Director, Fundraising & Communications will have a key role in raising the profile of the Chargers Impact Fund by building and increasing support for its direct and grantmaking programs. Director will oversee multiple fundraising efforts including in-stadium fundraising programs, special events, marketing, grant writing, and measurement and evaluation.

Roles & responsibilities

Responsibilities:


Fundraising & Development – 70%


o Work with leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to support and advance work – track against fundraising goals and recommend adjustments as necessary
o Build development capability including individual and institutional giving
o Staff Spanos family members and Board of Directors in meetings/events with major donors and institutional funders to solidify, strengthen and expand relationships
o Plan and execute fundraising special events
o Work with leadership to develop and manage corporate sponsor relationships to support
fundraising efforts
o Oversee 50/50 gameday raffle

Communications – 30%


o Work closely with Chargers staff to develop communications strategy, which includes materials to support development efforts
o Draft and edit various communications including talking points, statements, newsletter, donor/development materials, letters, and more
o Create board materials that support board management and development

Qualifications

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Passion for the mission and work of the Chargers Impact Fund
  • Proven ability to manage up: a history of working with boards and/or foundation leadership
  • Strong donor/philanthropic relationships in Los Angeles
  • At least 7-10 years of fundraising experience and a proven track record of raising +$1M annually from Southern California donors
  • Understanding of laws and regulations impacting the effective management of 501c3 public charities
  • At least 3 years’ experience managing staff
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and produce a large quantity of work at high quality
  • A self-starter with high motivation, organization and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills/ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable networking
  • Strong cultural competency and multi-cultural awareness with a proven track record of working with diverse communities
  • Proven ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, project consequences, and make recommendations in support of organizational goals
  • Proven ability to analyze data and develop accurate and compelling story using data
  • Commitment to team collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Understanding of and commitment to servant-leadership
