About this organization

At the Goldhirsh Foundation, we exist for, and are led by, innovators. We support organizations and projects in the areas of: educational and economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, community and civic activation, and intrepid innovation.

The largest initiative of the Goldhirsh Foundation is LA2050, which seeks to engage and activate Angelenos to shape the future of the region and make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live by the year 2050. This work is done in part via the well-known annual LA2050 Grants Challenge.

The Goldhirsh Foundation is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive staff team. We strongly encourage applicants who are people of color, LGBTQ, women, people with disabilities; and/or formerly incarcerated people.

About this job

The Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 initiative are looking for a Design Fellow to collaborate virtually with our team on a part-time basis, and help make an impact across Los Angeles communities. This continues our longstanding tradition of having a talented designer as a key contributor to our work. This is a paid position, with hourly wage commensurate with experience.

We are a work-from-home team, and this position is primarily remote. We do have periodic staff meetups and events, and candidates should preferably reside in Los Angeles.

A knowledge of Los Angeles and its communities is a plus, as is successful experience working within a team setting across work silos, and a track record of being both highly creative and deadline-focused.

Timeline:

January 2, 2025 - December 31, 2025, with an option to start in late 2024 for the right candidate. There also may be a possibility to extend the position.

The Design Fellow can expect to work with the Goldhirsh Foundation 20-25 hours a week. Ideally, the fellow can be available at least one hour each day Monday through Thursday sometime between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM PST to communicate with the Goldhirsh Foundation team and to attend virtual project meetings.

Roles & responsibilities

- Producing assets for LA2050’s social media platforms, digital communications, presentations, print ads, and other media as needed

- Creating special visual projects, depending on the particular skill sets of the candidate. (Past Design Fellows have made original animations, posters, illustrations, zines, and more.)

- Creating a unique visual identity and brand guideline for the 2025 LA2050 Grants Challenge

- Developing and executing an engaging digital campaign for the 2025 LA2050 Grants Challenge

- Collaborating with web agency to redesign and refresh the front-end design of our sites

The Goldhirsh Foundation staff may also request assistance with additional design projects

Qualifications

The Design Fellow will make creative and compelling images, designs, and layouts across our social media channels, newsletter, reports, websites, live events, and other marketing and communications opportunities. The fellow will learn and follow the organization’s brand guidelines. The fellow may also be involved in assisting or advising partner organizations and community groups that we partner with or support.

The Design Fellow will play a significant role in the annual LA2050 Grants Challenge that features a different look, feel, and theme each year. During the 2024 LA2050 Grants Challenge, 15,000 Angelenos were inspired to vote for the issues that most matter to them. Learn more.
