Girls on the Run Los Angeles seeks an Executive Director with vision, resilience, and compassion to lead and grow our independent council. With the support and partnership of our Board of Directors, the Executive Director will sustain and develop the council across various functions, including strategic planning, fundraising, financial, program, and staff management.
The Executive Director will work with community leaders, schools and school districts, non-profit partners, families and girls, and volunteers to significantly impact our community. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for youth and wellness, a strong fundraising background, and experience within after-school programs and school recruitment/management. The ED must be motivated by bringing people together to support a mission with time and resources and be community-centric and equity-minded in their approach to this work. The ideal candidate will have successfully led fundraising efforts in the nonprofit sector, understand program impact, including evaluation and measurement, and have well-established connections to our local Los Angeles communities. While previous nonprofit CEO experience is highly desirable, individuals with a strong performance record are encouraged to apply. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Roles & responsibilities
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Vision and Leadership
Conduct work and make decisions that support the GOTRLA mission and core values
Partner with the Board to develop, execute, and update an annual strategic plan, develop and forecast budget and program goals
Plan and implement infrastructure improvements to support and drive program expansion
Develop a comprehensive council growth projection
Foster partnership with the Board through strategic planning collaboration and providing education about the program’s mission, financial health, and growth/impact goals
Provide direction, oversight, and professional development opportunities for the staff
Promote the mission, vision, and goals of GOTRLA by building relationships with community leaders to increase visibility, support, and drive program sustainability and expansion
Partnership Development and Fundraising
Oversee fundraising vision and serve as community-facing representative
Develop and oversee diverse short- and long-term fundraising plans, which may include special events, grant applications, corporate sponsorships, and individual and corporate donor solicitation and stewardship
Ensure community engagement and communication are consistent with the GOTR brand and core values
Operational Administration
Ensure that the organization complies with all laws governing non-profit organizations and the Girls on the Run International Membership Agreement, Policies, and Guidelines
Prepare documents, reports, and strategic presentations to provide Board visibility into program operations
Collaborate with GOTR Council network for best practices
Leverage data to create and monitor GOTRLA key performance indicators (KPIs) and track progress toward meeting organizational goals
Manage the organization with a business mindset by establishing and implementing efficient systems and tools
Organized and able to identify, track, close, and status all work involving the organization
Program Development
Develop and foster a strong relationship with Girls on the Run International
Attend and present at key meetings and education-based summits and conferences that align with the mission to support recruitment and funding opportunities
Provide oversight for all aspects of program management for staff
Oversee semi-annual program culmination (5k race), ensuring participation and fundraising goals are met
Develop strong partnerships with school and school district administration
Financial Management
Set and manage to a budget; re-forecasting as necessary
Manage financial records and oversee monthly budgeting and financial operations
In Collaboration with the Treasurer and Board:
Lead the development of the annual budget, aligning financial goals with organizational priorities
Oversee revenue management and expense monitoring, ensuring alignment with budget projections
Establish and maintain robust recordkeeping processes and internal financial controls to ensure transparency and compliance
Regularly review monthly financial reports for accuracy, analyze trends, and provide insights to the Board. Highlight areas for improvement, address financial concerns, and make strategic recommendations for maintaining financial health
Qualifications
8-10+ years experience in a nonprofit with at least two years of demonstrated senior leadership experience and 2+ years of experience working in or with school districts
Ability to guide and lead teams to navigate ambiguous situations while setting the vision and also rolling up sleeves to get things done
Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead a remote staff
Proven success (3+ years) in management and growth of a team, including mentorship of staff, delineation of responsibilities, and delegation of work
Outstanding communication skills and ability to deliver presentations to large groups, the media, and other key stakeholders
Strong track record of driving growth and successfully executing on and developing a strategic growth plan
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, fundraising, grant writing, setting and managing budgets, and financial forecasting
Knowledge of non-profit best practices, including experience in working closely with a Board of Directors
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through continuous development and modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Strong technological proficiency to navigate an array of web-based software
Reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
2-4 years of demonstrated experience with non-profit fundraising
2-4 years of demonstrated experience with fee-based programs aimed at child development, child wellness
2-4 years of demonstrated experience with afterschool programs
Direct experience within LAUSD or LA County’s after-school environment
This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles County, and the candidate must be locally based to provide hands-on leadership and support to our community. There is an office located in El Sereno, but the position is largely work-from-home.
