About this organization

Vision:

The Expanded Learning Alliance (ExpandLA) is a countywide effort to reimagine where

and when joyful learning happens by making the most of the time youth have beyond the school

day. ExpandLA aims to create an equitable system of access for children and youth in the LA

area to activate their limitless potential.

Mission:

ExpandLA is an intermediary organization that supports, connects, and advocates for

expanded learning opportunities that provide equitable access for all children and youth in the

LA area. By working collaboratively with school-based and community-based expanded learning

organizations, we will build systems, pathways, and processes that strengthen the field to

nurture a young person’s natural curiosity, empower their self-development, and cultivate the

value they bring to making the world a better place.

Goals

● More high-quality programs with positive outcomes in which youth’s creative and

academic academic pursuits are nurtured, their cultures and identities celebrated, and

their skills to succeed in school, career, and life are strengthened

● Increased access to and participation in quality diverse afterschool and summer

programs by fostering a rich expanded learning ecosystem accessible to all, particularly

youth from historically marginalized communities

● Greater sustained investment in the expanded learning field as an essential and

integrated part of every child’s educational experience, providing critical additional

learning time for holistic youth development

Background:

After receiving input from youth and nonprofit providers, ExpandLA has found that young people

need safe spaces that provide an array of programs and services to meet all of their needs.

These spaces need to be community-based and accessible to young people as well as have

availability 24/7. To fulfill this mission, we are creating models for Youth Hubs in Los Angeles

County. In 2024, two pilot communities were launched, one in Southeast Los Angeles (SELA)

and the other in the Antelope Valley. To support youth impacted directly or indirectly by the Los

Angeles/Altadena wildfires, ExpandLA will begin to work with the youth, community members,

nonprofit and government stakeholders to support the creation of a community-led Youth Hub in two additional communities, the Altadena Region and South Los Angeles. The Youth Hub model should leverage expanded learning and community resources in high-need communities to create accessible one-stop hubs for youth to access programs and services. The Youth Hub

model can consist of one or multiple spaces within a community where providers are strategically coordinated around shared values and common goals. Most importantly, this model

is youth and community led.

About this job

The Youth Hub Coordinator (YHC) will be responsible for gaining community (mainly youth,

parents and nonprofit providers) input to initially create specific models for Youth Hubs in the

Altadena region and South Los Angeles. The YHC will be an organizer that can facilitate change

in communities by bringing together stakeholders and pairing CBO and other partners that meet

the needs of those communities. Ultimately, the YHC will work with stakeholders to maximize

funding and other resources to create a Youth Hub model that can be replicated throughout the

LA region. The YHC will collaborate with ExpandLA team members to create support around

quality, professional development, and advocacy for the Youth Hubs. Once there are models in

SELA, Antelope Valley, Altadena and South Los Angeles the YHC will continue to support Youth

Hubs around LA County.
