About this job

The Business Engagement Coordinator will help Destination Crenshaw engage and serve small businesses in the Crenshaw District. Build relationships with community stakeholders, particularly small business owners and managers. Help business owners identify areas of need and to facilitate solutions.

Daily reporting for this position is to the President & COO of Destination Crenshaw.

Roles & responsibilities

  • Provide information about Destination Crenshaw programs to small businesses.
  • Reach out to business owners and managers via phone, email, door-to-door, and at events.
  • Respond to small business inquiries.
  • Invite small businesses to participate in meetings, events, and programs.
  • Help small businesses access capital by connecting them with opportunities and assisting them with filling out grant and financing applications.
  • Identify when referrals to other stakeholders or partners are needed and connect the businesses with those resources.
  • Walk small businesses through challenging systems, including compliance with government regulations.
  • Engage small businesses in speaking out about community needs through interactions with elected officials and other decision makers.
  • Collect and update data in Salesforce, including business contact information, hours of assistance provided, nature of assistance, outcomes, and demographic data.
  • Bring back feedback from business owners and community partners to help improve Destination Crenshaw’s mission.
  • Collaborate closely with the DC team and partners to coordinate work and develop and carry out the organization’s project roadmap.


  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years’ experience in small business operations and/or small business advising.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Suite programs.
  • Experience in business banking, small business financial management and accounting, business advising, outreach, or community organizing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen well, and positively represent the organization and its mission.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and stay on deadline
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and work as part of a large team
  • Ability to work independently
