About this organization

The Director of Cities & Partnership, with the support of local CLIMATE:LAB staff, leads the implementation and management of the climate funds and co-labs for NYC, Michigan, and LA. They will develop and execute a multi-year fundraising plan including major gifts, annual appeal, planned giving, monthly sustainers' group, special events and capital campaigns, as needed.


About this job

The Director is responsible for ensuring the sustainability of the local fund and Co-Labs by leading both national- and local-level fundraising efforts, including strategy development, relationship building, and all grant management responsibilities. This position will report directly to the Executive Director and in some instances, be required to represent CIV:LAB in lieu of the Executive Director. They will also be required to manage a small team of full time and part time colleagues.


Pay Range: CIV:LAB offers a competitive salary, with pay range starting at $125,000, based on experience. While this is not commission based, the ability to raise money for CIV:LAB will be an essential part of the role.

Roles & responsibilities

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising (60%)
    • Develop national- and local-level fundraising strategies
    • Research funders and organizations that have the potential to lead to partnerships and philanthropic investment
    • Build with relationships with and manage a portfolio of funding prospects
    • Oversee management of Salesforce
    • Coordinate with copywriter & designer for pitches
    • Organize grant-writing
    • Apply and respond to RFPs
    • Present CIV:LAB at conferences and networking events
    • After year 1, the National Director will be responsible for raising $500,000-$1m annually
  • Manage city co-labs (20%)
    • Identify topics and partners & host local climate studios
    • Support grantees following the grants with climate studios and general ecosystem support
    • Oversee programming on the local level for grantees
    • Manage other CIV:LAB team members in local markets for co-labs projects
  • Managing city partnerships (20%)
    • Oversee partner interviews/landscape research
    • Lead advisory committee, including outreach & selection
    • Oversee Advisory Committee's work of climate project identification, deliberation, selection & awards
    • Work with Advisory Committee on growing the climate fund for the next round
    • Represent CIV:LAB at local events


Travel

  • This position will require 1-2 trips to each market per calendar year and potentially out of market travel for fundraising purposes

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of major gifts experience with fundraising at local- and national-levels
  • Proven experience as program director
  • Thorough understanding of participatory grantmaking, trust-based philanthropy, or capital investing
  • Project/program management techniques and methods preferred
  • Working knowledge of evaluation techniques and key metrics
  • Expert in the CIV:LAB areas of focus namely climate workforce development, education, and technology and areas of impact in the environment, economy, and society.
  • An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities
  • Sensitivity to the needs of communities and organizations working on complex issues around climate change
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to work with advisory committee members, grantees, funders, and CIV:LAB leadership
