About this job

The Mental Health Counselor will work with Chrysalis Clients to help navigate barriers to finding and/or retaining employment. They will provide one-on-one and/or group short-term counseling services to clients and will actively help clients build coping mechanisms and strategies to support in lifelong sustainability. Sessions may take place in-person at a Chrysalis center and/or virtually depending on client need.

Roles & responsibilities

  • Provide short-term, goal-oriented counseling services to assist clients in addressing mental health and emotional barriers impacting their employment.
  • Counsel clients individually to support them in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life changes, and fostering personal growth.
  • Guide clients in developing strategies to manage mental health challenges and improve overall well-being.
  • Conduct thorough client assessments through interviews and observations to inform treatment planning.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and confidential treatment records and progress reports.
  • Evaluate clients' physical or mental conditions and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans based on clinical expertise.
  • Act as a client advocate to coordinate necessary support services and referrals.
  • Collaborate with staff to review case files and provide clinical support and quality assurance.
  • Connect clients with additional external mental health resources and services when appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings as required and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the support team.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish), required
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in psychology, social work, or counseling required.
  • Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker or equivalent (e.g., LMFT, LCSW) in the state of California.
  • Proven experience in counseling, with a focus on mental health and barriers to employment.
  • Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week (hours will vary).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles, showing respect, sensitivity, and a commitment to inclusive, non-judgmental care.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and/or understanding of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Knowledge of individual behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management skills and client scheduling
  • Computer literacy required. Must be proficient in Outlook and Word and be willing to learn other applications.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between meetings and sites, as needed (mileage reimbursed).
