For over 40 years, Child & Family Center (C&FC) has provided quality care and services to children and families in need. Established in 1976 as St. Stephen's Special School, the Agency's founders saw a need to assist children with emotional, learning, and behavioral problems, by helping their families learn better ways to parent. We are proud to have grown into a provider of comprehensive prevention, early intervention, diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic services for children, teens, adults, and families who live in greater Los Angeles. Our vast programs include behavioral health (outpatient and field-based), substance use (outpatient and intensive outpatient), and domestic violence services (outreach and emergency shelter).

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO is an experienced, passionate, empathetic and visionary leader, who will build upon the strong foundation of Child & Family Center, and set organizational goals and strategy to serve the growing needs of families in the Santa Clarita, San Fernando, and Antelope Valleys. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there is an increased need in the community we serve that often goes unnoticed, and the President & CEO will work tirelessly to bring to light the challenges faced from mental illness. The ideal candidate will work in collaboration with community partners and funders to provide solutions to families and individuals who are in crisis, and strive to build healthy families and a healthier society.
The President & CEO is responsible for the current operating budget of $14M, mainly funded by government contracts and serving a primarily Medi-Cal constituency. The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated track record of building a thriving and fiscally sound nonprofit organization and have a strong understanding of the behavioral health landscape and service providers in our community. With a lens toward equity, diversity and inclusion, our next leader will build upon current relationships with the various constituencies in the community, have a deep understanding of the pressures facing our youth, and will bring a style that enhances organizational strengths, practices and processes.
Roles & responsibilities
Organizational & Strategic Leadership
-Lead all day-to-day operations of CFC, including administration, programming, development, human resources, finances, and strategy.
-Support operations and overall administration by serving as a liaison between the Board and staff and supporting the Board of Directors to fulfill their governance function.
-Work in conjunction with the senior leadership team to deliver effective and efficient programs, while ensuring compliance with applicable contracts, laws, and regulations.
-Foster an organizational culture that attracts and supports a dynamic staff, while maintaining a solid level of quality services.
-Partner with the Board and staff to develop and implement a strategic plan with measurable outcomes and milestones to achieve the overall mission and vision of the agency.
Financial and Operational Management
-Oversee all financial matters of CFC, including planning, forecasting, and analytical activities, ensuring fiscal health and alignment to short and long-term goals.
-Work with the Internal Affairs Committee and staff to provide the Board with financial reports and prepare the annual budget for review prior to the start of each new fiscal year.
-Work with the Board and staff to assure compliance with all appropriate operations, management, financials, and contractual obligations.
Community Engagement & Development
-Oversee and partner with the External Affairs Committee in creating and implementing a robust and diverse fundraising strategy, inclusive of major donors, corporations, foundations, events, and other diverse and creative revenue streams.
-Develop strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials to increase the visibility of C&FC, its programs, services, and activities.
-Serve as the main spokesperson of C&FC, seeking out opportunities for public speaking engagements that advance strategic goals and reputation in the community.
-Act as an advocate, within both public and private sectors, to meet the needs of clients and constituencies served.
-A minimum of 10-years’ experience in a senior leadership role within the nonprofit sector.
-Directly managed a budget of more than $5 million.
-Prior experience working in behavioral health, domestic violence or substance abuse services preferred.
-Strong understanding of government contracts, particularly LA County DMH, and various funding sources for behavioral health services and programs.
-Demonstrated success in fundraising, including individual giving, major gifts, and foundations.
-Demonstrated ability to manage and lead staff and work harmoniously and openly with a Board of Directors.
-Demonstrated knowledge and experience overseeing financial matters, including audits, reporting, and budgeting to ensure fiscal solvency.
-Well-developed experience in community relations, marketing, and program development.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary range is $165k - $185k. Competitive benefits package.
