Californians for the Arts (CFTA) is seeking to hire a Communications Coordinator to promote
CFTA’s mission and programs utilizing a mixture of marketing, public relations, and advertising
strategies. CFTA seeks applicants from all backgrounds to build a work culture that represents
the diversity of the populations we serve in California.
Roles & responsibilities
The Communications Coordinator will report to CFTA’s Senior Manager of Communications and
be responsible for a mix of the functions outlined below:
● Generate social media copy and execute campaigns across social media platforms.
● Design and produce marketing and promotional materials using Canva and/or Adobe Suite following established style guidelines.
● Create and distribute original multimedia content (video, audio) across CFTA & CAA websites and social media channels for our various programs, campaigns, and services.
● Oversee social media marketing platforms like Trello and Later to schedule posts and assemble performance reports for comparative analysis.
● Draft, copy edit, and develop engaging content for newsletters and blog posts, advancing organizational values.
● Utilize Every Action CRM to prepare newsletters, online forms, target email lists, and other e-marketing tools.
Participate in regular content campaign strategy and planning meetings with the Senior
Manager of Communications and additional stakeholders.
● Collaborate with CFTA staff to develop relevant messaging, as well as fundraising
appeals.
● Work closely with the Senior Manager of Communications to oversee the maintenance
and planning of CFTA’s content & editorial calendar and task list.
● Help monitor national, state, and local press for relevant stories and earned media
mentions.
● Operate Zoom webinar events, including set-up, panelist logistics, hybrid meetings, and live streaming.
● Support identifying and leveraging key media and cultural moments locally and nationally to raise the profile of CFTA and CAA.
● Represent CFTA at in–person events, including professional and leadership networks.
● Arrange for photos/interviews at CFTA events, projects, field work, supporters, etc.
● Respond to public questions and information requests via email, phone and social media.
● Assist staff with the development of visual presentations for meetings and public outreach events.
● Assist with CFTA events and field projects as necessary.
This position requires sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, hearing, speaking, being able to lift up to 25 lb. and running errands pertaining to organizational operations.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. This is a remote work position, although we are seeking a Communications Coordinator located in California and travel throughout California will be required at times.
Qualifications
Outstanding candidates will share a commitment to CFTA’s mission and will bring the
following experience and attributes:
● At least two (2) years of related work experience in the arts and cultural field;
● Demonstrated external communications and storytelling skills, both written and oral,
including the ability to write, edit and proof written materials;
● Excellent internal communications skills, including written and verbal skills.
● Enthusiasm, familiarity, and demonstrated alignment with CFTA’s mission and values
with a keen interest to advance statewide advocacy efforts and the idea of utilizing Art and Culture as a solution partner to economic development, education, health, and
climate change;
● Strong understanding of the landscape of BIPOC-led arts organizations, culture bearers, and civically-engaged artists in California;
● A deep familiarity with California cultural heritage and issues affecting cultural institutions and artists;
● Fluency and interest in adapting to new technologies in digital and social media
including: Instagram (including Stories and Reels), Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, TikTok, Threads and LinkedIn
● Proficiency with Adobe design products like Premiere and InDesign; and Canva
● Experience with photography, videography, and audio editing;
● Demonstrated knowledge of basic HTML is a plus but not required;
● Experience working with content management systems like WordPress, Vercel;
● Familiarity with CRM databases such as EveryAction, SalesForce, etc;
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G Suite (Google Apps);
● Experience using social media as an engagement tool;
● Ability to organize, coordinate and manage diverse activities and deadlines;
● Experience in campaigning, organizing or advocacy preferred;
● Ability to work some weekends and evenings;
● Dedication to CFTA’s mission of smart growth, conservation, and restoration;
● Passionate, energetic, and open to building impactful communications.
● Accomplished coordinator with a minimum two plus years experience in marketing,
public relations, advertising, and proven success in understanding an organization's
holistic connection to its mission.
● Education must be matched with experience and there is no degree requirement for this
position. Excellent recommendations from at least two recent and related
clients/employers must be submitted.
