About this organization
The Butterfly Equity Foundation is a Los Angeles-based corporate foundation committed to supporting nonprofits working to achieve food equity in Los Angeles County. The Foundation has three focus areas: nutrition security, food as medicine, and increasing affordable healthy food retail in underserved neighborhoods. We also devote time and resources to convening our grantees and fellow funders, and to being active participants in spaces that bring the nonprofit, philanthropy, corporate, and government sectors together to collaborate.
The Foundation was created alongside Butterfly Equity, a private equity company focused on making investments in the food sector from seed to fork. The Foundation works alongside our for-profit colleagues to help achieve our vision of a world where everyone has equitable access to nourishing food that promotes their wellbeing.
About this job
We are seeking to fill a full-time Operations Manager position to oversee the day-to-day activities of the Foundation and provide administrative, financial, and grantmaking support. This individual should enjoy working on a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously and be excited to further operationalize the systems of the Foundation.
The Operations Manager will report to the Executive Director, working as a part of a small team of two. They will proactively manage their own workload, priorities, and professional growth, while also knowing when to seek guidance. The ideal candidate understands that every piece of the work they do, from entering data to conducting more long-term research projects, is key to achieving our mission. They will serve as an integral member of this small team to help facilitate and build a unique philanthropic model where both the corporate and nonprofit sides of Butterfly, along with a diverse set of community stakeholders, work together to amplify our community impact. Their work should also embody the values of the Foundation: collaboration, humility, curiosity, patience, and joy.
Location and Work Schedule
This position is based in Los Angeles. The Foundation works on a mostly remote, but not entirely virtual, hybrid schedule. After a period of in-person training, the job requires one day a week in the Butterfly office in Beverly Hills. Attending evening and weekend events will be necessary a few times a year. Regular oversight of in‑person volunteer activities, as well as Foundation and grantee events throughout the greater Los Angeles metro area, is also required.
Salary and Benefits
The position has a salary range of $85k-$100k annually, commensurate with experience. We provide 100% employer-funded health, dental, and vision insurance and offer a 401k plan. The Foundation has 11 paid holidays and is closed for all weekdays between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day. To start, we offer three weeks of accrued paid vacation, with four weeks annually after three years of employment.
