ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY YOUTH COLLABORATIVE (OYC)

The OYC is an exciting initiative that mobilizes cross-sector agencies, community-based

programs, youth voice, and investments of the Los Angeles region to improve three key

outcomes for Opportunity Youth:

• High School Proficiency and Completion (graduation or GED attainment)

• Post-secondary enrollment and completion

• Workforce readiness and gainful employment

• Access to comprehensive supports

The OYC envisions a united network of partners from government, education, workforce,

provider, philanthropic, opportunity youth, and community sectors to support success

and well-being for opportunity youth.

About this job

The Alliance for Children’s Rights is seeking a dynamic and goal-driven professional to

collaborate in leading complex programs and partnerships for the Los Angeles Opportunity

Youth Collaborative (OYC). The Associate Director of the OYC supports the work of the

Director. This position will work with community organizations, educational institutions,

employers, opportunity youth, and public agencies to improve education and employment

outcomes for Opportunity Youth (OY). Opportunity Youth are young adults between the ages

of 16-24 and who have experienced a disconnection from school or work and/or have

experienced child welfare, juvenile justice, and/or homeless systems of care.

Roles & responsibilities

Reporting directly to the OYC Director, the Associate Director will:

Partnership Development and Engagement

• Build and Maintain Relationships: Develop and sustain working relationships with

public and private partner organizations, young adults, and community stakeholders to

foster collaboration and resource sharing across systems.

• Recruitment and Engagement: Actively recruit allies from Los Angeles County and City

systems, as well as community-based organizations, to contribute to the OYC’s goals.

Develop activities to motivate and engage participants and partners in the OYC’s

initiatives.

Supervision, Program and Campaign Support

• Support Program Implementation: Assist the Director and Managing Director in

managing campaigns and workstreams, ensuring successful implementation of grant

deliverables. Regularly report on progress to keep initiatives aligned with strategic

goals.

• Facilitate Action-Oriented Meetings: Lead and facilitate meetings and convenings with

city (Los Angeles and Long Beach) and county partners, driving accountable and

action-oriented change in relation to workstream and campaign goals.

Leadership and Supervision

• Supervise Fellows: Oversee OYC Fellows, providing guidance and support for their

roles in campaigns and operations.

• Provide Thought Leadership: Contribute to conceptualizing actionable opportunities

and outcomes for the OYC. Develop supporting documents and materials to assist the

OYC Director in strategy and execution.

Communication and Representation

• Public Representation: Represent the OYC and the Alliance at meetings, conferences,

and public events. Assist in creating written descriptions of OYC goals, activities, and

projects, and work with the Communications staff to support OYC communications.

• Internal Reporting: Report on OYC activities and progress at department and

organizational meetings. Conduct departmental staff meetings as requested to ensure

clear communication and alignment within the team.

Capacity Building and Support

• Support Young Leaders: Provide timely support and resources for young leaders

involved in the OYC initiative.

• Resource Referrals: Make appropriate referrals to connections and resources for OYC

partners to strengthen collaboration and impact.

Grant and Deliverable Management

• Support Grant Deliverables: Be knowledgeable of all department grants and

deliverables. Work with the Development team on funding prospects and proposals to

advance project agendas and ensure alignment with OYC objectives.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and success of the

OYC

The Associate Director will be instrumental in overseeing the daily operations of the LA

Opportunity Youth Collaborative and support the implementation of the Los Angeles P3

Horizons 32K strategic plan by providing seamless functionality and the effective

achievement of our goals

Qualifications

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS

• Eight years of professional work experience

• Two years of previous experience working with youth in foster care or within the

workforce system and cross sectoral system change management

• Three years of leadership experience overseeing programs and supervising staff

• Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred

• Flexibility and openness to dynamic systems and changing priorities

• Ability to work effectively in high stress situations

• Strong computer skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite

• Current driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance

• Leadership experience in systems change, youth leadership, workforce development,

or educational institutions is a plus
