About this job
Under the supervision of the Managing Attorney, the Legal Advocate will be responsible for assisting in citizenship and immigration services, document preparation, intakes, screenings, and client contact duties for low-income immigrants primarily in the Orange County Regional Office. The Legal Advocate will also assist in a wide array of administrative and logistical tasks related to case management, in addition to assisting in outreach and education of various ethnic communities in Orange County regarding citizenship and immigration. The Legal Advocate will also provide support in the areas of clinic administration and organization, data entry, in language translation/interpretation, and document retention.
Roles & responsibilities
65% Provide Legal Support and Client Assistance
Provide naturalization and immigration application assistance to clients under the supervision of an attorney within the OC Immigration & Citizenship Unit and providing in-language assistance when relevant
Provide clients with legal intakes, screenings, and answer client calls regarding case matters and case follow ups
Provide immigration case assistance support, such as document requests, document/case evidence analysis, case and calendar management, and scheduling case meetings
Provide general case management and administrative support as assigned
Assist with administration of remotely held, onsite, and offsite legal clinics, contributing client assistance and aid in workflow management at AJOCs various clinic workshops
20% Administrative Support
Provide general office administrative support for the unit including, but not limited to filing, scanning, copying, and office supply inventory
Assistance in volunteer coordination which can include volunteer retention, volunteer/intern training, managing student intern assignments, and volunteer related communication
Provide in-language and translation/interpretation support to OC Immigration & Citizenship
Perform administrative duties including but not limited to inputting intakes into centralized database and filing closed intakes
Provide grant management support to Managing Attorney
15 % Conduct Outreach and Education
Attend outreach engagements with local community-based organizations and adult education centers to present information sessions on Naturalization and Immigration law
Assist in the development and translation of written community outreach and education materials
All other duties as assigned
