Campus Safety Coach / Safe Passage Coach (Onsite)

Contract Schedule:

  • September 17, 2025 – June 5, 2026
  • Monday – Friday
  • 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM (Mornings - 2 hours)
  • 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM (Afternoons - 2 hours)
  • 1:15 PM – 3:15 PM (this time is for Tuesday Afternoons Only - 2 hours)

We are hiring Safe Passage Coaches to provide a visible, positive presence for students traveling to and from schools in high-gang activity areas. This is not just a security role; you will mentor, engage, and build trust with youth while representing the school professionally.

Roles & responsibilities

You will work as part of a Neighborhood Safety Team with campus staff, outreach workers, and community safe spaces teams, helping reduce community violence and supporting student safety.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a visible deterrent to unsafe activities during arrival and dismissal.
  • Use de-escalation skills with high-risk community members to prevent violence.
  • Build trusting relationships with youth and community members while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Monitor, observe, and document suspicious or unsafe activities and report to supervisors immediately. Engage with possible negative situations and prevent escalation.
  • Conduct periodic radio checks and maintain clear, professional communication.
  • Stay informed about local conflicts and trends to support violence prevention efforts.
  • Represent the school positively while modeling respect and calm under pressure.

Qualifications

Who We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED required (AA or BA is a plus)
  • Experience with security and protective services to maintain safety, order, and security.
  • Experience with community-based services, street outreach, or similar environments
  • Knowledge of Los Angeles County communities with histories of violence
  • Experience with conflict resolution, crisis intervention, or mentorship
  • Strong critical thinking and observation skills
  • Ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Comfortable using radios and mobile devices in the field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting
  • Must pass drug screening and background check (no pending criminal cases)
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and adapt to outdoor environments for extended periods
  • Committed to confidentiality, professionalism, and trauma-informed engagement
