APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness, and health and wellness opportunities. Summary

Under the supervision of the AssociateDirector of Teen and Young Adult Services, the Senior Program Manager, Higher Education serves as the covisionary and expert implementer for creating pathways supporting college readiness and success. The Higher Education department awards the APCH Shaheen Scholarship, provides 1:1 coaching and support for students, and offers semester length classes, workshops and opportunities focused on college readiness.

The SR. Program Manager is responsible for leading complex programs and partnerships. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and goal driven professional that understands the target population and has both the knowledge and experience with implementing best practices supporting higher education . The Senior Manager will interact with various community organizations, educational institutions, and public agencies to improve the education and employment outcomes for young adults who are currently disconnected from educational institutions and/or the workforce. The Senior Program Manager will provide guidance and training for the department and will also take the primary lead on key annual events for the department which includes the APCH Shaheen Luncheon. The Senior Program Manager works collaboratively to lead the development of a robust program calendar in alignment with the overall programmatic goals. The Senior Program Manager works collaboratively with Program Leadership, specifically the Senior Director of Programs and Associate Director of Teen and Young Adult Services in vision setting, strategic planning and supporting the overall function and success of the program.

Roles & responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning and implementation of key departmental events and milestones which include but are not limited to Summer Intensive Program, APCH Shaheen Luncheon, Renewal, Interview Day, College Tours, etc.
  • Research academic and student support services at all institutions hosting scholars; develop relationships with college staff to facilitate referrals for scholars
  • Seek partnerships that may expand member recruitment and resource access
  • Work with APCH Professional Readiness and Employment Program (PREP) to assist scholars with part-time jobs and/or work-study opportunities while in school
  • Serve as the departmental collaborative partner for internal programming
  • Work collaboratively with the Grants and Development department to ensure all reporting is completed accurately and timely
  • Readiness to step in for class facilitation if and when needed
  • Ensure efficient systems and processes are in place to support a successful member experience (incoming, current, graduating students)
  • Develop and facilitate parent engagement workshops, info sessions, and activities about college access and planning at least three times a year. Collaborate with the Counseling Department to incorporate into Parent Cafe meetings.

Administrative Duties

  • Oversee and monitor department budget, program expenses tracking and submitting check requests for program supplies and independent contractors
  • Responsible for the financial oversight of department grants
  • Oversee the gathering of relevant data and information for monthly/quarterly reports, grant requests, and general updates as requested
  • Create and submit paperwork and reports in a timely fashion
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Facilitate program-specific team meetings
  • Support other team members in carrying out center protocols, rules, and policies

Other Non-Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events, and field trips
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for members
  • Attend all required program meetings and events
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

  • Education/Training/Experience
  • B.A. degree in social services or related field (social work, psychology, non-profit management, and/or education) or Equivalent Experience
  • A minimum of three years of experience in mentoring, youth development, and working within community organizations and/or schools
  • Some management experience and/or training
  • Have knowledge of curriculum development, policies, and procedures
  • Experience with Apricot 360 Case Management Software and Salesforce (Preferred)
  • Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse urban communities
  • Working knowledge of Higher Education systems and pathways, Community Colleges, UC’s, CSU’s, Public and Private institutions

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, standing required on a daily basis
  • Sitting and use of hands/vision for computer work for extended periods of time
