About this job

Under the direction of the Music Program Senior Manager, the Music Program Assistant will provide support and assistance and be at the front-line for member safety and well-being. The Music Program Assistant will translate mission, policy and REACH practices into direct application for members. The Music Program Assistant is also responsible for supporting general department administration, program development as well as assisting in coordinating events and community relations. The Music Program Assistant assists the Senior Music Program Manager in facilitating management for all music department staff, instructors, and volunteers; assigning duties and responsibilities to support staff as necessary; ensuring program efficiency; assisting in interagency and external communications and collaborations; and assuming classroom management and support as needed.

Roles & responsibilities

  • Work under the Senior Music Program Manager to implement high quality and engaging exposure-based music lesson plans for different ages (elementary, middle school, high school) and levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
  • Assist in the research and development of lesson plans, collateral, schedules, field trips, guest instructors, class projects and productions, etc. for different age groups at APCH
  • Address student behavior appropriately and follow intervention and support approaches adopted by the agency
  • Complete administrative duties as assigned and executed in a timely manner
  • Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events and field trips
  • Chaperone members on department and agency field trips
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for members
  • Develop and foster relationships with external organizations and community partners to allow members to engage with expanded opportunities for exposure, training, production, performance and career development
  • Work with the entire music team to produce Music Program events and provide support for all agency events
  • Provide support and assist in the development of the APCH ensembles
  • Assist the Music Program in recruitment efforts onsite and offsite
  • Facilitate individual and/or multiple group classes throughout the week both virtual and in person
  • Organize and teach youth in a way that produces measurable results
  • Provide classroom and project management
  • Support and implement Berklee City Music Network activities
  • Support organizational staff with projects, performances, events and productions
  • Assist Program staff in preparing member assessments, correspondence and data entry
  • Conduct student assessments, track attendance, and prepare department reports
  • Conduct and track qualified member assessments with the Berklee PULSE method (online learning resource with training provided)
  • Track member attendance and progress; prepare and submit reports
  • Prepare members for participation in special projects, performances and events (i.e. agency fundraisers, festivals, etc.)
  • Mentor through actions and behavior in observing dress code, language, and observance of organizational policies and procedures
  • Assist Independent Contractors with Daily setup for Programming, scheduling private lessons, developing curriculum overviews.
  • Assist with purchasing supplies & materials need for Member Programming
  • Updating virtual Member Hub with class and instructor information on as needed basis
  • Assist with budget tracking for purchasing and Independent Contractors
  • Facilitate weekly 1-on-1 instrument lessons (AMP)
  • Assist contractors and staff in classroom management and virtual class creation
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
