Under the direction of the Educational Services Assistant Manager, the English Language Arts Academic Assistant will provide support and assistance to our teens and young adults in English Language Arts. The Academic Assistant will be at the front-line for member safety and well-being. The Academic Assistant will translate A.P.C.H.’s mission, policies and R.E.A.C.H. values into direct practice with our members.

Roles & responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide an inclusive classroom environment for members with learning differences

Within a classroom setting, work one-on-one and in small groups with members grades 9th through 12th to provide academic support and homework assistance in the English Language Arts; this may range from foundational English skills to advanced placement

Assist members with exam preparation and resources

Assist members with accessing academic tools and resources

Support members with essay writing including scholarship writing process and college applications

Identify members’ academic needs and work closely with them to develop or maintain essential academic skills

Communicate with Educational Services staff to identify and best meet the academic needs members

Assist with the tracking of members' academic progress, and other administrative support needed by the Educational Services Assistant Manager of Teens.

During the summer semester this position will become full-time, 40 hours per week, to support Summer Camp programming. The Academic Assistant will aid in the development and delivery of lessons.

Education/Experience

BachelorDegree in related field

Experience working with teen and young adult population

Experience working with marginalized communities preferred
