A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Educational Services, the Educational Services Manager is knowledgeable of best practices and innovations in the education field and uses them to support members and staff at A.P.C.H. They will ensure program execution aligns with department and agency goals and expectations.

Roles & responsibilities


The Educational Services Manager assists in creating and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to meeting the academic needs of members, grades 2nd-8th. This includes responsibilities such as supervising and training personnel and collaborating closely with staff, including the Ed.Services Assistant Manager of Teens regarding data sharing and the successful academic transition of members.

Academic Persistence/Outcomes

Create and maintain a positive culture of learning aligned with the agency and the department’s vision and mission.

Enhance, maintain, and use systems to collect academic data and track performance.

Analyze student data and determine ways to improve academic performance and student achievement.

Work with department staff to develop academic support plans for elementary and middle school members who are struggling in school that match their needs with the department’s program offerings

Implement instructional strategies, including supporting the needs of diverse learners.

Assist with the development and implementation of assessments, and analysis of data.

Oversee and support department initiatives.

Partnerships & Cross-Departmental Collaboration

Help build partnerships with local schools and coordinate services for members.

Communicate with parents, guardians, instructors, and key school personnel regarding members’ academic progress.

Collaborate with departments to coordinate academic support for members who participate in programs outside of Ed Services.

Develop partnerships with local organizations to provide members with educational opportunities

Administration & Other Duties

Research best practices and staff development opportunities to support department instructors with meeting the academic needs of members. Support Associate Director with staff development.

Oversees organization and maintenance of the APCH Library.

Provide homework assistance and substitute for instructors, as needed.

Support Associate Director with hiring and training.

Assist with training and the managing of interns and volunteers.

Support the Associate Director in the management of the department budget and coordinating purchase.

Assist with management, instruction, and member supervision during summer camp.

Support and maintain a positive and collaborative department culture.

Attend all required program and professional development meetings.

Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times.

Address member behavior appropriately, following the approach adopted by the agency.

Comply with the agency’s legal mandate to report suspicions of abuse.

Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events, and field trips.

Perform other tasks as assigned
