APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Educational Services, the Educational Services Program Coordinator of English Language Arts (for littles and middles) implements program and agency goals, R.E.A.C.H. objectives, agency best practices and program efficiencies. The Program Coordinator holds the primary responsibility to develop, prepare and implement hands-on, skills based activities for members in 2nd-8th grade in the areas of English Language Arts.
Roles & responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, prepare, and implement engaging, hands-on academic lesson plans for members in 2nd-8th grade, specifically in literacy.
- Utilize a variety of strategies to reach different types of learners, including those with IEPs and bilingual speakers.
- Assess members and communicate in-class academic progress within the department.
- Communicate and collaborate with program instructors, parents, guardians, and key school representatives as partners in the education of our members.
- Collaborate with external organizations to provide special enrichment activities.
- Support and coordinate department events.
- Provide support for Homework Drop-in.
- Train and manage interns and volunteers within the classroom.
- Oversee and/or lead club activities.
- Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events, and field trips.
- Complete administrative duties in a timely manner.
- Address member behavior appropriately, following the approach adopted by the agency.
- Comply with agency’s legal mandate to report suspicions of abuse.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for our members.
- Attend all required program and professional development meetings.
- Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Literacy Preferred
Two years experience working in academic classroom setting
Two years working with marginalized communities
Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred
Physical and Mental Demands
Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
Walking, standing required on daily basis
Sitting and use of hands/vision for computer work for extended periods of time
Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
Able to communicate and convey accurate information
APCH COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
All new hires must provide proof of their first dose of the vaccine on the first day of employment, if not fully vaccinated, and will have 30 days from their date of hire to complete their COVID-19 vaccination and submit proof of completion to the organizations HR department.
