Roles & responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Programs, the Associate Director takes charge of cultivating innovative, individualized services and programming for teen and young adult members at this critical stage of development. In collaboration with the TYAS staff and APCH Programs, they will coordinate the network of services and support to ensure all teen and young adult members transition into adulthood with clear goals and a set post-secondary pathway. The AD will have complete budgetary oversight and will be the direct line of communication between senior management and program staff. The AD will be responsible for managing staffing needs and performance evaluations. The AD is an energetic organizer, competent administrator, and creative program planner committed to inspiring our populations capacity towards self-reliance, positive, non-prejudicial and nonviolent interaction with peers, teachers, and adults, and to make a positive difference at APCH, in their communities and in the world.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
TYAS Staff Management
Recruit, screen, train, and supervise TYAS department staff
Conduct 1:1 meetings, department meetings, quarterly evaluations, and monitor goal progress for TYAS Program Managers and other direct reports
Model professionalism, while creating a culture of transparency, open communication and accountability
TYAS Program Management
Manage on-going programs and develop new initiatives and opportunities in alignment with the mission, strategic plan and Logic Model for APCH (Including but not limited to: College Readiness, Higher Education Scholarships, Professional Readiness and Employment Programs (Career exploration, job readiness, internship, externships, job shadowing, etc.), Youth Mentoring and Life Skills Development (Peer Groups, Financial Literacy, Community Action (Civics Education including Community Engagement and Volunteerism, ie,Service Projects), Cultural and Educational field trips and Social and Recreational activities)
Provide oversight of all TYAS programs curriculum and align programming with the long term outcomes of the APCH Logic Model
Facilitate the implementation of new program initiatives including: Speaker Series, Community Service activities, International Exchange programs, Workshop series, and Parent involvement projects
Organize and plan department schedules (calendar) in conjunction with APCH Programs & events; schedule on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
Develop a bridge-out process for members to transition out of APCH
Connect with parents of students to discuss progress, concerns, and keep them informed as needed
Collaborate with APCH Counseling and Education Services departments to monitor and refer members who may need additional academic support and/or counseling
Evaluate and maintain student progress in social, academic, and life skills development
Facilitate and manage teen involvement in agency programs and special event activities
Recruit teens for participation in Teen Programs
Opportunity Youth Initiative
Collaborate with the IMPACT Program to encourage opportunity youth ages 14-22 years old to participate in TYAS programming, including classes, field trips, events, etc.
Interact and share resources with all APCH departments and the RISE High school at APCH program on campus and other LAUSD high schools in the community
Financial Oversight
Create and manage department budget in collaboration with the Senior Director of Programs
In collaboration with Development and Accounting departments and program managers, provide oversight of all grant expenditures to ensure alignment with grant restrictions and manage spending timeline
Audit all budget trackers to ensure all spending is accurately captured and charged to the correct funding source
Partner Stewardship
Collaborate with community-at-large to develop relationships and partnerships with other organizations
Identify strategic partner organizations to supplement programs and services offered to teen and young adult members
Support and steward partnership with educational partner to ensure partnership goals and member engagement benchmarks are met
Data Tracking & Reporting
Conduct student evaluations and track progress/effectiveness of all program components
Create/Coordinate and maintain the official APCH Alumnae Program for APCH graduates
Create documentation, reports and information as necessary
Submit reports for grant updates, board report, and metrics to Senior Director of Programs
Programs & Services Oversight
Adhere to and promote REACH values in accordance with APCH member behavioral policies
Be an APCH ambassador at all times with staff, members and guests.
Collaborate with APCH Associates Directors (ADs) to develop cross program collaboration opportunities for TEEN members.
Assist APCH team in enhancing and enforcing overall APCH policies and procedures
Attend all required meetings
Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Training/Experience
B.A. Degree in Social Services or similar field
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working with youth (ages 14 – 22)
3 years’ experience managing department staff in management roles
