A Place Called Home is seeking a mission-driven Nutrition & Urban Ag (NUA) Coordinator The NUA Coordinator reports to the NUA Program Lead, and assists in the coordination and preparation of NUA events. These events include classes and experiences in the kitchen, garden, dining room and classroom. The NUA Coordinator will track and coordinate the food, material and space needs of these events and synchronize instructors and kitchen staff to ensure these needs are met. The NUA Coordinator will also provide administrative support for federal food programs. FLSA Status/Hours: Non-Exempt/up to 40 hours
Hourly Rate: $14.00-$16.00



  • Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times
  • Work with APCH direct service staff to evaluate and maximize opportunities for intra-agency educational experiences for members ages 8-21
  • Ensure engagement and integration of youth of all ages into NUA programs
  • Oversee day-to- day meal service and food requests at The Bridge and from other departments
  • Coordinate customized food needs at The Bridge and for other departments, ensuring they are consistent with NUA operational and nutritional guidelines
  • Support the implementation and training required for APCH participation in CACFP, SFSP and other federal food programs
  • Interface with Urban Ag to ensure maximized kitchen use of produce from our community gardens.
  • Support in the preparation and distribution of meals and snacks on both campuses
  • Support safety and dietary compliance according to agency and health department standards on both campuses as needed
  • Occasionally assist with the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen
  • Coordinate department’s ongoing volunteer days and special events as needed
  • Coordinate with department staff to plan and host recurring harvest, sorting and distribution activities in APCH kitchen and garden sites
  • Help establish and oversee new and existing departmental initiatives
  • Support new and existing departmental operations
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education/Training/Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in culinary arts, health, policy, agriculture, sustainability or related fields (preferred)
  • 2 years experience working with school age youth
  • 2 years experience working in food service or culinary arts
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation, presentation, and cooking methods
  • Basic knowledge of event planning
  • Bi-lingual, English/Spanish (preferred)

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in chaotic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, standing required on daily basis
  • Sitting and use of hands/vision for computer work
  • Lift up to 30-50 pounds regularly
  • Willing and able to clean kitchen space and equipment
  • Able to communicate and convey accurate information

Additional Information

  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends for Agency events
  • Passion for working with children and young adults
  • Must have valid CA Driver’s License and a dependable mode of transportation
