The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools in a non-profit organization created in 2007 to transform historically under-served schools and serve as a scalable transformation model for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the State of California, and the nation. The Partnership dramatically accelerates achievement for students in the district’s highest-need schools by operating a network of 19 schools (15,000-student enrollment) in Boyle Heights, South LA, and Watts. EDWIN MARKHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL
Edwin Markham Middle School is an Investment School (REED) located in the Watts community of Los Angeles, serves approximately 800 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The student body is 78% Latino and 22% African-American, and about a quarter of the school’s students are English language learners. The Markham staff and community look forward to finding an inspirational leader with a strong instructional background. Highest priorities for the campus are continued implementation of rigorous Common Core-aligned instruction, using data to guide instructional decision-making, and building a culture of high expectations and excitement about learning throughout the campus.
The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools seeks a highly effective, transformational urban school leader to drive continued growth and sustain a positive academic culture and safe climate for children and adults at Markham. The Principal will be responsible for ensuring that all students have the tools they need to be academically successful, that all members of the community (students, teachers, parents and families) have high expectations for student achievement and conduct, and that academic performance improves continuously for all students. The Principal will be an experienced, committed, and entrepreneurial school leader who is excited by the challenge of school transformation and who has demonstrated success at dramatically improving student achievement at a high-need school. Below are the responsibilities and qualifications required of Partnership principals. The specific school community’s stakeholders, including school staff, parents, students, and partner organizations, will also provide their highest priority qualities and characteristics. These priorities will inform the hiring committee’s selection process.

Total first year base salary ranges from between $114,990 and $143,402 – 45G, A-Basis, 261 paid days.
