In partnership with Los Angeles Metro, Bike Transit launched the Downtown Los Angeles Pilot Bike Share Program in summer of 2016, with 65 stations and 1,000 bicycles. Rapid expansion up to 4,000 bikes is anticipated in the following years. Our mission is to make bike share a healthy, easy, accessible and enjoyable way to get around Los Angeles.

The increasing size and complexity of the program and geographic expansion give rise to the need for an analytical and detail-oriented Controller. Under the guidance of the General Manager, the Program Controller will provide crucial accounting support for expansion and ongoing management of the Los Angeles program.

The Program Controller will be responsible for the entry of financial information in QuickBooks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card statements and staff reimbursements. While basic accounting is key in this position, the role is far greater. The Program Controller will also act as the financial adviser to the General Manager. The position involves cash flow projections, budget and expense control, and assistance with a variety of financial support of the Operations, Marketing and Customer Service Managers. The selected individual will take principal responsibility for operational and budget-to-actual reports, and will also work closely with the Corporate team in strategic planning for the system’s expansion phases. The ideal candidate has excellent math and Excel skills, a passion for finding solutions to complex problems, and is a “systems builder” by nature. We are looking for a self-starting, highly detailed professional who uses technology to solve problems and is an excellent multi-tasker.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates budget reports to support decision making of department managers and General Manager
  • Produces variance analysis reports monthly to provide to the Assistant Corporate Controller
  • Work with Assistant Corporate Controller to develop, refine and standardize accounting practices
  • Prepares monthly financial data and reports as requested by the client or management
  • Reconciles company and client bank accounts on a monthly basis
  • Prepares monthly invoices
  • Generates cash flow analysis for General Manager monthly
  • Records transactions into QuickBooks on a weekly basis
  • Manages accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Works with Assistant Corporate Controller to reconcile company credit cards and inter-company transactions monthly
  • Provides support to the Assistant Corporate Controller to prepare consolidated monthly financial statements
  • Attends weekly meetings with the General Manager, Department Managers, Assistant Corporate Controller
  • Leads budget process for expansion of the LA Metro bike share system.
  • Prepares equipment purchase orders for expansion
  • Analyze monthly financial results to identify and resolve errors


  • College degree in accounting, business or related fields
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, auditing, financial analysis or similar role
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, Google Applications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a diverse environment
  • Self-starter who rises to the challenge, with a proven ability to adopt to changes
  • Maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas and exhibit willingness to try new ideas
  • Strong organization skills, dependable, and strong people skills
  • Big 4 experience and CPA license preferred
  • Strong interest in sustainability and bike sharing a plus
  • Positive attitude, a good sense of humor, and dedication a must

Salary range:

$80,000-90,000/year commensurate with experience, plus benefits including health care.
