LOS ANGELES FOOD POLICY COUNCIL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Thank you for your interest in an internship with the Los Angeles Food Policy Council. The Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) is a collective impact initiative created in January of 2011. The LAFPC advances the mission of building a Good Food system – one where food is healthy, affordable, and fairly and sustainably produced – for all Los Angeles residents. A Good Food system has the potential to improve the health and well-being of our residents, particularly in low-income communities and communities of color; develop a thriving Good Food economy for everyone; and strengthen agricultural and environmental stewardship throughout the region.
LAFPC coordinates the expertise and leadership of community-based organizations, non-profits, universities, and public and private sector partners to strengthen connections across the food system. Through extensive coalition-building, our food policies and programs seek to build a sustainable food system by comprehensively addressing local economic development, worker equity, environmental stewardship, individual and community health, and health disparities in underserved communities. Priorities include shifting our regional food system to promote local growers, sustainable agriculture and fair working conditions for all food workers, and ensuring access to healthy, affordable food in underserved neighborhoods. Interns play an important role in many aspects of our work. Interns work with staff on specific projects for 15 to 40 hours per week for at least three months. Interns conduct research and analysis, provide outreach and education through social media and other strategies, assist with writing publications, provide event support, and help with some administrative tasks.
