Artistic Program Manager

The Artistic Program Manager works under the direction of the Executive Director and Artistic Director and in collaboration with the Production Manager and Artistic Programs Associate to manage all artistic aspects of the organization including event programming/producing, artist and repertoire development, and communication of all artistic intent to staff and internal constituencies. In addition, he/she works with the Director of Education and Community Engagement Coordinator on developing and implementing educational music experiences for at risk youth, family and seniors in Pasadena and surrounding areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Development

The Manager is responsible for creating the artistic program from idea through execution. This includes:

  • Brainstorming, researching, organizing and pitching program ideas
  • Assisting the Artistic Director with creating and developing programming for each event
  • Directing Artistic Programs Associate on artistic research
  • Facilitation of all communications with artists regarding repertoire and performance logistics
  • Working closely with the production manager to design all aspects of the performance including venue, staging, lighting, seating, sound and video needs
  • Creation of set lists, rehearsal and performance schedules, and technical run of show scripts
  • Preparation of music and materials for non-orchestra concerts
  • Communication and coordination with Music Librarian for orchestra concerts


Artist Recruitment & Relationship Building

The Manager attends live performances and performing arts conventions to stay current on artists and trends. He/She will facilitate clear and positive communication with artists and performers including initial inquiries, communication of artistic vision and direction throughout the concert planning process and during rehearsals and performances.

Internal Communications

The Manager serves as the artistic point of contact for all departments at MUSE/IQUE and is responsible for communicating artistic intent and program information to production, communications and community/education departments and ensuring all materials, production and curriculum are in line with the vision of the Artistic Director.

Organization Representative

The Manager serves as a representative for the organization and/or the Artistic Director (in her absence) during meetings with artists and community stakeholders.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Music and performing arts background required
  • Event management and/or concert production experience required
