Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles (PSR-LA) is seeking an experienced, and motivated candidate to fill the position of Senior Policy Manager. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and knowledge of social movements. This is a full time managerial role, whose primary function is the management of two core environmental health programs at PSR-LA: the Land Use & Health (LUH) program and the Toxics program. The Senior Policy Manager is responsible for leading multiple policy efforts and projects in line with the strategic direction of each program and PSR-LA’s mission. This includes but is not limited to:
The Land Use & Health program is focused on assessing and influencing the severity of contamination and pollution by light and heavy industry in the South Central Los Angeles community. The goal of the program is to work with affected communities, local decision-makers and regulatory agencies to ensure the health and quality of life for South LA residents by reducing, and eventually eliminating exposure to toxic land and air contaminants present on sites affected by past and current industrial uses, while promoting healthy uses of land.
The goal of the Toxics program is to reduce the use of and exposure to toxic chemicals by advocating for precautionary grounded systems and policies, building authentic community engagement, and promoting just transition strategies for industry. Specifically in 2018, PSR-LA’s will focus on (1) reducing the use of and exposure to pesticides, (2) creating and activating a robust and efficient toxics network in California to drive integrative toxics policy discussions and campaigns, (3) identifying a just transition for the metals industry in LA County, and (4) supporting place-based projects in communities facing toxic contamination.

Hours and Compensation
This is a full-time salaried position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applicant must be available during regular business hours and some evenings/weekends. Job may require occasional travel within California and out of the state. Valid California driver’s license required. PSR-LA is an equal opportunity employer.
