Imagine LA is a dynamic and growing non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing the community to end the cycle of family homelessness and
poverty. Our mission is to end the cycle of family homelessness by mobilizing trained mentors, collaborative public and private resources, and community leaders, who understand that a roof over one’s head is merely the starting point to a better life. Our innovative Family Empowerment & Mentorship Model works with highly vulnerable families exiting homelessness and emancipating parenting foster youth. Imagine LA helps them build skills, habits, and relationships that break the cycle of poverty and neglect, so a family can thrive long term.

The Family Empowerment & Mentorship (FEM) model begins after a family has been placed in long term permanent housing. Each family, is matched with a Family Team Manager (FTM) who is a masters level social worker and a team of trained volunteer mentors from the community for 12 to 18-months. Together the FTM and the mentor team provide stability, relationships, and resources to build life skills, financial wellness skills, employment, career, academic, health and childhood development prowess. Together professional case management, resources and consistent mentorship / friendship / encouragement for every member of the family over the age of 5 empowers the family to maintain housing, increase stability, and ultimately thrive.

Imagine LA is growing. In our first 10 years we have worked with over 100 families with incredible results. We now seek to work with hundreds of families which means recruiting hundreds of volunteer mentors. To do so, we are hiring a Community Engagement Manager to help create and execute a dynamic strategic community engagement plan as well as assisting in related communications efforts.

The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) reports to the Associate Executive Director and works directly with the President/CEO. The CEM is the primary executor of the Imagine LA outreach efforts to recruit and engage volunteer mentors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer Outreach & Engagement - Work with CEO, Associate Executive Director, and Program Coordinator to create our volunteer engagement strategy and manage its execution; including:
    • Schedule and lead informational sessions;
    • Develop and utilize a vibrant group of Imagine LA “Ambassadors”; experienced mentors and mentees that are ready and able to speak on behalf
    • of Imagine LA.
    • Manage online volunteer recruitment platforms (e.g. Mentor.org, Volunteer match, Idealist);
    • Work diligently to follow-up with community leaders and prospective volunteers;
    • Work closely with Program Coordinator to refer potential volunteer mentors to complete and submit a volunteer application and complete phone interview;
    • Working with Program Coordinator to refer incoming volunteers into training and matching volunteer onboarding process;
    • Input contacts into our Salesforce Database and tracking relevant activities with those contacts.

 

  • Communications:
    • Work with Communications Director (consultant) and CEO to develop and execute the organization’s communications strategy;
    • Assist the development, creation and distribution of the organization’s communications materials;
    • Manage website and regularly update all social media platforms;
    • Work with specialty consultants in digital media, grants, events, and other Community Partners;
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
     

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 5+ years’ experience in community organizing, outreach or sales; Nonprofit and Volunteer management experience a plus.
  • Experience with data entry in a web-based content management system (Salesforce) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong in Microsoft suite, Outlook, G Suite. Comfortable with social media and public speaking- a must.
  • Passionate about Imagine LA’s mission and motivating people to participate.
  • Collaborative, strong work ethic, detail-oriented, professional attitude, self-motivated, punctual.
  • Open to coaching and receiving feedback, and willing to give it!
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines, thrive on problem solving and challenges.
  • Ability to wear many hats and to move in and out of various communities (e.g. corporate, multiple faiths, high net worth, and social services) in a single day
  • Own reliable transportation and possess a valid driver’s license (mileage reimbursed).
     

Pluses

  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish preferred).
  • Love and knowledge of food and coffee love (we really like drinking coffee and eating. No, really).
  • Sense of humor- please find bad jokes funny.
  • Ability/willingness to bake gluten free banana bread (store bought also acceptable). Also, please be ready to enjoy eating banana bread (see first bullet).


Salary and Benefits: Full Time/Exempt/With benefits. Salary commensurate with experience; employment with Imagine LA is contingent on completion of satisfactory background check. Parking is provided.
