JOB TITLE: Information Officer II, Southern Region

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position reports to the Director, Office of Communications, Directorate Division, and has full responsibility for all digital communication for the Attorney General’s Office. The incumbent will consult with and advise executive staff of the digital media implications related to the department’s activities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director, Office of Communications.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises other Departmental Information Officers and professional staff within the Southern Region.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Enclosed windowed office in a smoke-free environment.


30% Devise a long-term digital strategy that complements the long-term communications plan for the Attorney General to ensure maximum visibility of priority messages. Design and implement social and digital media including, developing digital collateral, video, and creating and publishing relevant, original, high-quality content on social media and other digital platforms. Use emerging communications technologies to help advance the department’s outreach activities and reach new audiences.

25% Act as spokesperson for the Department with digital news media. Represent the Attorney General at meetings and advises the Executive Office staff on the impact of departmental activities in digital media. Manage the day-to-day social media accounts. Monitor the department’s online reputation. Moderate all user-generated content. Consult with and advise executive staff of the public relations implications related to the department’s digital presence and social media pages. Secure top digital media opportunities for the Attorney General, such as town halls and online Q&As to communicate his priorities and policy vision.

20% Provides expertise, oversight and supervision to staff within the Communications Office, Southern Region. Directs work and completes probationary and annual appraisals for staff. Provide guidance to Executive management on digital best practices, policies, and upcoming social media activities. Coordinate with the department’s Information Officers in responding to and informing the media on departmental objectives and priorities.

15% Develop strategies to create audience growth, expand the department’s digital footprint, content reach and engagement. Utilize content and SEO to drive traffic. Analyze effective benchmarks to measure the impact of digital and social media efforts and compile reports for management.

10% Liaise with outside groups to mobilize support and amplification of the Attorney General’s online messaging and digital content.
