Position Description

America Needs You – California (ANY-CA) launched in 2016 as ANY’s first Partner Fellows Program site. The ANY-CA program works with two partners, the Ric and Suzanne Kayne Foundation and ScholarMatch, to provide college students with holistic support through graduation and to careers. America Needs You focuses on the career development and mentorship aspects of the Kayne Scholar experience.

The ANY-CA team works delivers approximately 10 Saturday career development workshops and several additional program events annually to two cohorts of Kayne Scholars (ambitious, first-generation college students) and their Mentor Coaches (accomplished young professionals). The team builds corporate partner/internship host relationships, works with national staff on curriculum design and development, provides support to Kayne Scholars and recruits a new class of Kayne Scholars and Mentor Coaches each year. There is also daily coordination with ScholarMatch and the Ric & Suzanne Kayne Foundation to collectively support Scholars in college and careers.

The position requires commitment to our mission and work, a track record of achieving excellence, and experience with program and partnership management. The Program Director will work closely with the national team on program curriculum and execution. The ideal candidate will be excited about working in a start-up/entrepreneurial environment with multiple partners and will have start-up, partnership-building, and facilitation experience, as well as a familiarity with ANY’s mission and model.

Responsibilities

  • Manage current program and launch new cohorts
  • Work with national Program and Operations team to tailor and update curriculum
  • Liaise with Kayne Scholars coordinator and other programmatic partners providing academic and case management support
  • Run approximately 10 full-day, weekend workshops each year (weekend work and travel is required)
  • Manage logistics and operations to ensure workshops and other program events (1) run smoothly, (2) create a positive and challenging learning environment for students and mentors, and (3) provide an engaging experience for visitors and guests
  • Onboard, train, manage and retain two cohorts of 40 Fellows (three cohorts starting in June)
  • Recruit, onboard, train, manage and retain two cohorts of 40 Mentor Coaches (three cohorts starting in June)
  • Provide intensive career and internship support for Fellows, and source internships from corporate partners and other employers
  • Support healthy, strong, and strategic mentoring relationships
  • Execute program evaluation and tracking and work with national staff to ensure program consistency and quality
  • Ensure the following program goals are met:
    • Workshop Attendance (80% 6 month and 80% 12 month goal)
    • Annual Student Internship Placement (90% goal)
    • Match Retention (80% 6 month and 75% 12 month goal)
    • Student Retention (95% 6 month and 90% 12 month goal)
  • Coordinate guest speakers and panelists
  • Manage budget and resources
  • Assist in marketing the program to key constituents and ensure the web page, social media accounts and collateral materials are populated and engaging
  • Work with national staff to help determine the potential growth trajectories for the Kayne-ANY Program
  • Additional projects and duties as determined by COO
     

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience working in partnership with others
  • Insight into the college landscape and the first-generation college experience
  • Excellent project management skills and comfort balancing multiple priorities and deliverables effectively
  • Ability to run a program within a larger national network
  • Experience launching new programs and building partnerships, especially with employers and within the business and STEM fields
  • Leadership presence and the ability to mobilize small and large groups to action
  • Outstanding relationship management skills and ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including college students, volunteers, university and foundation partners, as well as corporate supporters/internship providers
  • Results-oriented with a commitment to outcomes-driven performance
  • High level of responsiveness, drive, energy and commitment
  • Excellent public speaking, writing and editing skills
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Experience managing full-time staff members
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of web-based and social media technologies
  • Seeks and gives continuous improvement and feedback
  • Strong background in career development and/or mentoring, and experience teaching or training youth and adults, experience working with college-aged youth preferred
  • Knowledge of California’s educational, civic, philanthropic and political landscape
  • Availability to travel (weekend travel required)
