Schedule/Hours:​ ​TBD, full time, Flexible to work various shifts as assigned, occasional night

Summary:​ Bicycle Transit Systems (Bike Transit) aims to be the global leader in bike share system implementation and operation. Leveraging over 25 years combined experience of our staff in sustainable transportation, Bike Transit brings a new approach to the planning, implementation and operation of bike share systems.

In partnership with Los Angeles Metro, Bike Transit has launched the Downtown Los Angeles Pilot Bike Share Program, Metro Bike, with approximately 61 stations and 700 bicycles. In 2017 we will be expanding to over 1,300 bicycles in Pasadena, Venice and The Port of Los Angeles. Future rapid expansion of up to 4,000 bikes bicycles is anticipated in the following years. Our mission is to make bike share a healthy, easy, accessible, and enjoyable way to get around Los Angeles.

We are seeking a Field Technician to assist with the maintenance of Metro stations and bikes based in our Pasadena office. This position will perform routine station and bike maintenance, cleaning, balancing of bikes, and station installations in Pasadena. Field techs will work under the guidance of the Pasadena Operations Supervisor to ensure that all stations and bicycles are maintained and cleaned in accordance with our routine maintenance schedule. Field Technicians will respond to system balancing needs on a proactive and reactive basis. The Field Tech will also work directly with Station Technicians, Mechanics, Customer Service, and Dispatch teams to perform minor station and Bicycle repairs in the field.

Field Technicians will be courteous drivers who understand the importance of safe driving.

Roles​ ​and​ ​Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining stations (troubleshooting, replacing parts, swapping batteries, cleaning) in accordance with company policy and standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Graffiti and sticker cleanup at stations.
  • Communicating with Dispatch to give updates on conditions at stations and in coverage area.
  • Following the directions of Dispatch while in the field to rebalance bicycles to different stations, troubleshoot downed stations, and make other repairs as needed.
  • Regular in-field safety checks on bicycles and bicycle maintenance.
  • Installation and removal of bike sharing stations.
  • Operating/maintaining sprinter van (cleaning and running).
  • Complete service records for all work performed in accordance with company SOP’s.
  • Communicating with other staff and supervisors to affect improvements.
  • Close coordination with customer service team to listen and to serve the needs of passholders.
  • Work under the guidance of the Operations Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Valid driver license and clean driving record.
  • Excellent mechanical skills, and some experience in bicycle maintenance and/or willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.
  • Must have a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Adaptability - the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Excitement and interest in bike sharing.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be available to work some evenings, weekends.
  • Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new software.
  • Ability to understand and learn technical aspects of the software and the hardware capabilities and needs of a bike share system.
  • Organized thinker, with the ability to self-direct under a high pressure environment with changing deadlines.
  • An eye for safety in everyday tasks.
  • Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
  • Requires stooping, reaching, biking, and lifting up to 50+ pounds.
  • Sense of humor.
